What is an Online Check Image?

An Online Check Image is a digital copy of a check you wrote that has posted to your checking or savings account.

How do I view a Wells Fargo Online Check Image?

Sign on to Wells Fargo Online® and go to Account Activity. Click the check icon next to the check you would like to see.

Why do I need Wells Fargo Online Check Images?

It's quicker than requesting a paper copy of a check you've written. You can view an image of your check through Wells Fargo Online immediately, while it can take up to 10 business days to receive a paper copy by mail.

Do all accounts offer Wells Fargo Online Check Images?

Currently, Wells Fargo Online Check Images are available for checking and some savings accounts with check writing features.

Can I view the front and back of a check?

Yes. And it's easy to save or print images.

What if I can't see the information written on the check?

A check may show up blank if written in red, metallic, or other non-traditional ink. Checks should always be written with a black or blue pen.

Is there a charge for viewing Wells Fargo Online Check Images?

There is no fee to view checks through Wells Fargo Online Check Images for Wells Fargo customers.

When do images of my checks become available in Wells Fargo Online?

If the check number is displayed in Account Activity, then the check has already posted to the customer's account. The check image can be accessed after 7 am.

For example, if you have a check transaction that posts on your Account Activity screen on Tuesday, the check image will be available after 7 am local time that day (Tuesday).

Please note: Wells Fargo Online Check Images are not available from Saturday 10 pm Pacific Time to Sunday 2 am Pacific Time so that our images systems can be updated.

Will joint account holders also be able to view Wells Fargo Online Check Images?

Yes.

To determine whether a check has posted, sign on to Wells Fargo Online and view your Account Activity.

Requesting and searching for check images

How do I search for a check?

If you already have Wells Fargo Online access, sign on. Click Checks from the Account Activity page. Then:

  • Use Search to view more transactions
  • You must enter either a check number (or range of check numbers) or the dollar amount of the check (or range of dollar amounts) to complete the search for your check.
  • View a check by selecting the check icon.

If you're not enrolled for Wells Fargo Online access, enroll now.

Why can't I search for checks by the payee's name or the date I wrote on the check?

Checks are filed based on date posted, dollar amount, and check number.

Can I see an online image of a check returned due to insufficient funds?

No, if your check is returned due to insufficient funds, the image of the check will not be available.

Printing and saving your check images

How do I save my check image?

Windows:

  1. Position your cursor over the copy you want to save.
  2. Click the right button on your mouse.
  3. Select Save Picture As...
  4. Choose a location on your hard drive to save your check image.
  5. Click Save.

Macintosh:

  1. Position your cursor over the copy you want to save.
  2. Click and hold down the mouse button
  3. Select Download Image to Disk.
  4. Choose a location on your hard drive to save your check image.
  5. Click Save.

To view a saved check image:

Locate the saved image on your computer and double-click the file name to view. Select a Web browser from the list of available programs and click Continue.

How do I print my check image?

A printer friendly version of the check image will automatically print when you print the image from your browser. To print a copy of the check:

  • Click File on your browser
  • Select Print
  • Select OK

Can I still receive a paper copy of a check through the mail?

Paper copies may be printed via online banking under the Accounts tab, View Check Copies, or requested at a branch or by calling the phone bank.
